'Road Tripping at 50: My Pop-Up Camper, the Home That Carries My Dreams'
TP03 Slide-In Camper

A home on wheels, a heart set free. Since hitting the road in 2020, I have spent five years and 150,000 miles completing a life expedition from running away to finding myself again.
I From a Rooftop Tent to a Pop-Up Camper: I Made My Home on the Road
I started with a small car and a rooftop tent, and today I have a fully equipped pop-up camper. To me, it is not just a vehicle—it is a harbor I can pull into anytime, a home that carries all my life and dreams.
While camping along the Southern coast, I met a stranger who willingly gave up their parking spot for me. I also shared a heartwarming moment when several passing drivers and I worked together to free a stuck truck. Along the way, I encountered so many kind people. They made me believe that the beauty of this world has never been absent.
At first, I thought the 'house and car' represented a state of being tied down, the opposite of being 'on the road.' In the past, I was defined by my house—as a wife, a mother, a grandmother—but never as myself. Now, this pop-up camper carries me toward the horizon, teaching me that home is wherever your heart feels at peace.
Looking back, I remember the vastness and serenity I felt driving along the Pacific Coast Highway: 'In that moment, I was no longer bound by any identity. I was simply me—Susan, behind the wheel. That is freedom.'
II Encouraging More Women: It Is Never Too Late to Restart Your Life
Over five years on the road, I have not only visited more than 200 towns across America but also completed my transformation from a runaway to a rule-breaker. I challenged myself on Western wilderness highways, learned to surf, and ran marathons. I realized: I am not escaping—I am writing my story. I am not trapped; I am breaking the rules.
I want to tell every sister out there: do not let age limit you, and do not let reality scare you. Our lives should be steered by our own hands. Even one small step forward is a beam of light that belongs to you. It is never too late to restart your life. There will always be a light worth chasing bravely.
III A Sincere Record of Courage and Self-Redemption
A pop-up camper is more than a vehicle. It is a sincere record of courage and self-redemption. From the moment I 'decided,' to 'finding the light,' 'chasing the light,' 'becoming the light,' and finally 'running toward the wild'—it carried me out of a dark tunnel, put me back in the driver's seat of my own life, and turned me into the light that illuminates others.
I will keep going. My next leg starts from Denver, heading south to warmer lands. I have no so-called 'ultimate destination,' because the most beautiful part of life is always on the road.
I want to walk this path with all of you. I am not walking alone. Behind me are many sisters just like me. They are waiting for me—to go farther, to live better. May every one of us see the light, and bravely walk toward it.
IV Returning to Essence: Freedom Is the Highest Form of Luxury
At its core, the ultimate secret of a pop-up camper lies in understanding the essence of camping. It is not about replicating a complete home within a tiny space, but about creating a mobile base that lets you set off easily and stop freely. As one seasoned camper put it, a pop-up camper should let you switch your weekends from busy mode to pure enjoyment mode with a single click.
When your vehicle is no longer a pile of expensive features, but every detail reflects your lifestyle and aesthetic taste; when it can take you deep into forests and lakesides, yet blend seamlessly into city traffic on weekdays; when the moment you open the door, a carefully arranged, warm, and bright little world greets you—this one-of-a-kind, deeply personal freedom and comfort is the true luxury that no premium configuration can ever match.
The form can be simple, but imagination and exploration of life need never be complicated. This, perhaps, is the most precious gift a pop-up camper can offer us.
